McMaster University recognizes that the University and surrounding Hamilton area, including their nature spaces, are situated on traditional territories shared between the Haudenosaunee confederacy and Anishnaabe nations. These lands are protected by the Dish with One Spoon Wampum belt. The wampum uses the symbolism of a dish to represent the territory, and one spoon to represent that the people are to share the resources of the land and only take what they need.

Event Information:


At this event, we will be planting the last batch of trees before the winter season at McMaster’s Lower Campus. These trees will be planted both by Lot P to continue expanding the eco corridor, and in the proposed Food Forest for the future Indigenous Teaching Garden. Thank you for joining Nature at McMaster in our restoration efforts!


We provide all the tools – shovels, extractigators, loppers and gardening gloves (although you are welcome to bring your own).


 


Schedule:


10:00AM: Meet at Parking Lot P, begin tree planting


12:30PM: Pizza will be provided near the helipad


1:00PM: Event ends


 


What to wear/bring:


-Comfortable, closed-toe, durable shoes (mud proof if you have any)


-Long pants and long socks


-Ensure you wear clothing and shoes that you will not mind getting dirty


-Water bottles


-Sunscreen/Hat/Sunglasses


-Bug spray


 


Additional notes:


-We will be providing free pizza! Please let us know of any dietary restrictions when you get to the event.


-We may choose to take photos/record videos of the event for records purposes. Individuals will be informed and can choose to consent or not consent. Non-consenting individuals will not be photographed. Some content maybe used for social media, which will also be made known at the beginning of the event.


 


Caution:


-Ticks – Wear long socks over pants to protect yourself from tick bites.
