Webinar 5: Colony-nesting Waterbirds in Hamilton Harbour
Featured Guest Speakers: Dr. Jim Quinn and Shane de Solla
Hamilton Harbour was designated an Area of Concern in 1987. One of the challenges of its restoration was the degradation of wildlife populations. One of the goals of the Remedial Action Plan is to have a self-sustaining mixed community of colonial waterbirds—birds that nest in groups and return to the same nesting spot every spring. For more than 30 years, Dr. Quinn and his students have studied colonial nesting waterbirds like cormorants, gulls, terns, and night-herons. Meanwhile, Shane de Solla studies toxicology and the effects of contamination on wildlife.
Join us as we learn about the years of research, adaptive management and monitoring of colonial nesters in Hamilton Harbour.
