McMaster University recognizes that the University and surrounding Hamilton area, including their nature spaces, are situated on traditional territories shared between the Haudenosaunee confederacy and Anishnaabe nations. These lands are protected by the Dish with One Spoon Wampum belt. The wampum uses the symbolism of a dish to represent the territory, and one spoon to represent that the people are to share the resources of the land and only take what they need.

Pier 8

City of Hamilton

Pier 8 is a recreational area on Hamilton’s waterfront that has several great cafés, a refreshing view of the harbour, and an outdoor ice skating rink, which, in the summer, is converted into rollerblading with rentals on-site!

Hamilton’s west harbour is bustling with opportunities to enjoy the waterfront! Close to Bayfront Park and the Waterfront Trail, you can enjoy the views from a local cafe, go skating at an outdoor rink in the winter or roller blading in the summer. Note that pier 8 is currently under-development with limited public accessibility. To learn more about the project visit the city of Hamilton website.
