McMaster University recognizes that the University and surrounding Hamilton area, including their nature spaces, are situated on traditional territories shared between the Haudenosaunee confederacy and Anishnaabe nations. These lands are protected by the Dish with One Spoon Wampum belt. The wampum uses the symbolism of a dish to represent the territory, and one spoon to represent that the people are to share the resources of the land and only take what they need.
The EOY Awards stands as a testament to the tireless efforts and remarkable initiatives undertaken by individuals, groups, and businesses in nurturing and protecting our environment. This year, we are introducing new categories to recognize the vibrant youth who are steering change through innovative environmental projects.
This event is made possible by Nature at McMaster, the Cootes to Escarpment Eco Park System and the Naturalist Club and is supported by our organizing committee which includes members from the Royal Botanical Gardens, the Bruce Trail Conservancy, Mohawk College, Environment Hamilton and the Hamilton Conservation Authority.
