McMaster University recognizes that the University and surrounding Hamilton area, including their nature spaces, are situated on traditional territories shared between the Haudenosaunee confederacy and Anishnaabe nations. These lands are protected by the Dish with One Spoon Wampum belt. The wampum uses the symbolism of a dish to represent the territory, and one spoon to represent that the people are to share the resources of the land and only take what they need.

Attending this workshop will teach you everything you need to know about invasive species in your local area.


This event will start with a presentation on invasive species, their history, and their effects on neighbourhood ecosystems, followed up with a discussion of learned materials. Another presentation on the importance of identifying the species will be up next, right after which a hands-on workshop will take place with the supervision of real-life specimens.


There will be FREE pizza as a gratitude for willingness to better the community and the effort.


Remember to dress in accordance to weather, yet long pants and sleeves are preferred to protect your exposed skin from cuts. We advise to bring water to stay hydrated, sunscreen to protect from the sun and ticks spray to prevent unwanted ticks.
