Are you looking for a FUN and EXCITING opportunity to explore native ecology and participate in local natural land protection in Hamilton? Do the concepts of sprawl and sustainability cities INTRIGUE you? If the answer is YES to either of these or you just like to tree plant/hike, this event is PERFECT for you! Turn that intrigue into real action by participating in the Roots & Trails – Tree Planting & Hiking Event! On October 26th, hop onboard with Stop Sprawl Students, and Nature at McMaster as they guide you through a free event with tree planting, pizza lunch, and hiking through the beautiful McMaster Forest Nature Preserve. Digging deeper, we will help restore Hamilton’s natural ecosystems by planting native species and removing invasive species while observing and learning about unique species along the McMaster forest trail. Join the SSS community for the day to learn and share your passion and concern for climate change and sustainability. Come on out with your friends for a fun and memorable day!
This event is sponsored by Nature @ McMaster and OPIRG McMaster.

What To Bring/Wear > Comfortable, closed-toe, durable shoes, long pants, and long socks, ensure you wear clothing and shoes that you will not mind getting dirty, water bottles, sunscreen/hat/sunglasses, bug spray
We provide all the shovels, trowels, loppers, gardening gloves (although you are welcome to bring your own), and extractigators – a great tool to help with pulling larger invasives
If tree planting isn’t your thing, you can also do a (less physically intensive) seed collecting activity.
P.S. The money for the ticket will be refunded after the event as long as you show up! Attendance will be taken.
