McMaster University recognizes that the University and surrounding Hamilton area, including their nature spaces, are situated on traditional territories shared between the Haudenosaunee confederacy and Anishnaabe nations. These lands are protected by the Dish with One Spoon Wampum belt. The wampum uses the symbolism of a dish to represent the territory, and one spoon to represent that the people are to share the resources of the land and only take what they need.

Volunteer-Only Guided Hike


To welcome our new volunteering group, we will be going on a hike through McMaster Forest! Prepare for exciting discussions on local ecology, as well as meeting other volunteers!

McMaster Forest is located at 1105 Lower Lions Club Road. Directions are found on our website’s McMaster Forest page.


 


Schedule:


-Meet at McMaster Forest at 12:00pm


-Hike from 12:00pm-2:30pm


-Event ends at 2:30pm


 


What to bring/wear:


-Comfortable, closed-toe, durable shoes


-Long pants and long socks


-Ensure you wear clothing and shoes that you will not mind getting dirty


-Water bottles


-Sunscreen/Hat/Sunglasses


-Bug spray


 


Additional notes:


We may choose to take photos/record videos of the event for records purposes. Individuals will be informed and can consent or not consent. Non-consenting individuals will not be photographed. Some content may be used for social media, which will also be made known at the beginning of the event.


There is small free parking lot available at McMaster Forest if you would rather drive there.


We will be using the McMaster Forest Loop Trail, which is marked in White and Yellow.


A moderate terrain recreational trail with small to moderate elevation gains featuring new growth forests and ravines, old field/meadows, and prairie habitat.


 


Caution:


-Ticks – Wear long socks over pants to protect yourself from tick bites.
